How we collect, use and protect your information. Plain words, no small print tricks.
We design and operate private journeys in China, and to do that well we hold a small amount of information about the people who travel with us. This notice explains, in plain words, what we collect, why we collect it, who sees it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It covers this website and every enquiry, quotation or booking you make with us.
By using this website, sending an enquiry or booking a journey, you agree to the practices described here. If anything below is unclear, write to us and we will explain it — that is part of the service.
The short version
This website is operated by Orilivant China International Journeys Co., Ltd. (“ORILIVANT CHINA JOURNEYS”, “we”, “us”) — the company that contracts with you for your journey. Our journeys are planned and operated from our office in Fuzhou, Fujian, China, and we have been arranging private travel in China since 2007. We design and operate the journeys described on this site, and we are the controller of the personal information collected through it. Our contact address for everything in this notice — questions, requests and complaints — is info@orilivantchinajourneys.com.
Some information you give us directly; some is recorded automatically when you use the site.
We do not ask for, and do not want, information about your health beyond what a journey requires, or about your religion, political views, ethnicity or trade-union membership. Where a journey makes a health or dietary question unavoidable — altitude, mobility, allergies — the answer stays in your file and is used for your safety and comfort.
If you give us information about another person — a partner, a family member, a travelling companion — please make sure they know it is being shared and understand how it will be used, exactly as described here.
Every use traces back to preparing, discussing or delivering your journey:
We make no automated decisions about you, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not send automated marketing sequences. We keep your information out of anyone else’s marketing hands.
Our own pages set no cookies, and this site currently carries no analytics or advertising tools: no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no third-party ad tags. Nothing on the site requires a cookie in order to work, and you are free to block or delete cookies in your browser at any time.
Two things are worth saying plainly. The typefaces you see are delivered by Google Fonts, so loading a page sends a request to Google’s servers, which see your IP address and browser type. And the site is served through a global content-delivery network, which processes connection data for security and speed. If we ever add analytics or advertising tools, we will update this page first, name the tool, and explain how to opt out — by browser setting, or through the advertising industry’s opt-out pages.
We never sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we never share it with anyone for their own marketing. We do share it, in the smallest amount necessary, with the services and suppliers that make the site and your journey work:
Our suppliers are independent businesses governed by their own privacy policies, and we cannot be responsible for those policies; we do, however, share only what the service requires and expect our regular partners to treat it with the same care we do.
Our business is conducted from China, so your information will be processed here. The website itself runs on a global hosting network, and our mailbox is hosted outside the PRC, which means your details may be stored or handled in more than one country. When we pass passenger details to a hotel, a guide or a permit agency in China, that transfer is what makes your journey possible — there is no way to book a hotel room in Lhasa without it. In every case we send the minimum required, over encrypted connections, and this notice sets the standard of care we apply wherever the information sits.
Where the law allows, we will delete your information earlier on request.
We do not send marketing emails today, and we do not run newsletter sequences. If we ever launch a newsletter, it will be opt-in only — you will be asked, and you will never be added because you once sent an enquiry — and every message will carry a one-click unsubscribe link. You may also simply write to us and ask to be removed from any list, at any time, without giving a reason.
We do not store card details. Payments are arranged with your contact person by bank transfer, or — where offered — through a payment link issued by a licensed payment provider. In that case the card or digital-wallet details are entered on the provider’s own secure page and never pass through our servers; we keep only a payment reference, the amount and the status. The provider’s own privacy policy governs that part of the transaction.
Access to your details is limited to the people arranging your journey, and the enquiry database is protected by access keys held by a single responsible person. The site is served over encrypted connections. Passport and permit documents are never sent through the website form: when we need them we tell you the specific secure channel to use, and we store them with access restricted to the staff handling your booking. Devices that can reach your information are password-protected and locked when unattended.
No system in the world is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can promise is this: we keep as little as possible, for as short a time as possible, and if a breach ever affected your information we would tell you promptly, tell you what happened, and tell you what we are doing about it.
Write to info@orilivantchinajourneys.com and you may ask us to:
We reply within one working week, and we act on your request as quickly as the law and our accounting obligations allow. Before we act on a request we may ask you to confirm your identity — that protection is for you, not for us. If you live somewhere with its own data-protection law, such as the EU or UK GDPR, Australia’s Privacy Act or Canada’s PIPEDA, we will honour the rights it gives you in the same way we honour those under China’s Personal Information Protection Law. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first — and you remain free to complain to your local data-protection authority.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and we never market to children. Every booking for a traveller under 18 is made by a parent or legal guardian, who gives us the young traveller’s details and their consent on the child’s behalf. Those details — name, date of birth, passport information, dietary or medical needs — are used only to arrange the journey: permits, hotel rooms, transport and, where needed, a doctor. A parent or guardian may ask to see or delete a child’s information at any time, and we will act on that request.
During a journey we may take photographs, as your booking terms explain. If you would prefer not to appear in them, simply tell your tour escort at the start of the journey. Images used for commercial promotion require your separate consent — we will ask, and you may say no.
Some pages link to other websites — airline timetables, visa portals, payment providers. Their privacy policies are theirs, not ours; we have no control over how they handle your information and we recommend reading their notices before you give them anything.
If our practices change — for example, when analytics or advertising tools are added, or a new service provider takes over part of the work — we will update this page, note the change at the foot of the page and move the date. We will never apply a new purpose to information you gave us earlier without telling you first. This notice was last updated in October 2026.
For any question, request or complaint about privacy:
Office hours are 9:00–18:00 China Standard Time, Monday to Saturday. Because most of our travellers write from North America and Europe, your morning is our afternoon — you will usually hear back the same day, and always within one working week.
This notice summarises how ORILIVANT CHINA JOURNEYS handles personal information and sits alongside our booking terms. Where a signed booking contract sets a stricter standard, the contract prevails. Last updated: October 2026.
