The framework of every booking — your quotation and contract set out the specifics.
At ORILIVANT CHINA JOURNEYS we believe in flexibility and in terms that prioritise your peace of mind. This page sets out the conditions that govern every booking — so you have the details you need to make informed decisions about your journey with us, whether it is an immersive cultural experience or an adventurous expedition.
By paying your deposit you accept these booking conditions. Your quotation and booking contract set out the specifics of your journey — the price, inclusions, hotels and payment dates — and together with these conditions form the agreement between you and Orilivant China International Journeys Co., Ltd.
You travel voluntarily, knowing that journeys to foreign countries and remote areas involve risks and dangers including, but not limited to: force majeure, civil unrest and terrorism; roads, trails, hotels, vehicles, boats and other conveyances that may not be operated or maintained to the standards common in developed countries; high altitude; accident or illness without rapid access to evacuation or medical supplies; the adequacy of medical attention once provided; physical exertion for which you may not be prepared; the consumption of alcoholic beverages; and the negligence (other than wilful or fraudulent conduct) of Orilivant China International Journeys Co., Ltd. or others. Part of the enjoyment of adventurous travel comes from these inherent risks. You agree to be responsible for your own welfare and accept all risks of delay, unanticipated events, illness, injury, emotional trauma or death.
Our journeys are priced on the basis that every participant accepts the limitations in this section. As lawful consideration for being permitted to participate, you release and discharge Orilivant China International Journeys Co., Ltd. and its agents and employees from any and all liability arising from your participation in the tour or expedition, to the maximum extent permitted by law. This release is legally binding upon yourself, any minors under the age of 18 travelling with you, and your heirs, successors and legal representatives.
All information in your itinerary is accurate to the best of our knowledge, but changes can and do occur — sometimes to improve a journey, sometimes for logistical reasons such as train or flight schedule changes or government policies. We make every effort to keep you informed, but cannot be held liable for alterations to published itineraries. Prices are based on costs and exchange rates current at the time of enquiry and are not guaranteed until booking.
A deposit of USD 300 per person secures your booking — on private journeys and on group and expert-led departures alike — and is deducted from your final balance. We begin securing your guides and hotel rooms as soon as it arrives. The balance is due 60 days before departure; for bookings made within 60 days of departure, full payment is required immediately. If full payment has not reached us 60 days before departure, we reserve the right to cancel the booking and retain the deposit. Tour prices are per person and based on double occupancy.
If travel restrictions stop you from travelling after your balance is paid, we will do our best to recover costs from suppliers on your behalf. If you cancel for other reasons, the following applies:
| When you cancel | What is forfeited |
|---|---|
| More than 60 days before departure | Deposit will be forfeited |
| Between 45 and 60 days before departure | 20% of total tour price |
| Between 30 and 45 days before departure | 50% of total tour price |
| Less than 30 days before departure | No refund |
| After departure | No refund |
We reserve the right to cancel or postpone any journey, including a guaranteed departure, for reasons outside our control — travel restrictions, natural disasters or political instability. If this happens within 30 days of departure, we refund you in full less any non-refundable expenses incurred to date. Group departures may be cancelled if minimum traveller numbers are not met.
International travel insurance covering medical care and emergency evacuation is required for all travellers, and we ask for a copy of your policy or medical insurance card before departure. If you need a provider, we suggest Global Rescue for travel insurance and rescue & evacuation services in case of injury, illness or safety threats during your trip. Travellers without adequate insurance may be unable to join high-altitude sections.
You must carry a passport valid for at least six months beyond the duration of the trip and obtain the correct visas for entry; we cannot accept responsibility if you are refused entry because you lack the correct documentation. We assist with the passes required for sensitive areas such as Tibet, but approval rests with government agencies and cannot be guaranteed; if an application is rejected, we reserve the right to cancel the affected journey.
We may take and publish photographs during the operation of any journey. By booking, you agree that your image may appear in such photographs; if you would prefer that it not be used, simply identify yourself to your tour escort at the start of the journey. Photographs or footage used for commercial promotion will be subject to your separate consent.
You are responsible for selecting a journey appropriate to your abilities and interests — we grade each trip by physical and technical difficulty and are happy to discuss it with you — and for being in sufficient good health to undertake it. You are also responsible for studying your itinerary and pre-departure information, and for bringing the appropriate clothing and equipment as advised.
We organise, promote and sell journeys made up of travel services — surface transportation, excursions and accommodation — purchased or reserved from various suppliers whose agents are independent contractors, not our agents or employees. Our responsibility is therefore strictly limited: we are not responsible for the wilful or negligent acts or omissions of suppliers or their employees, or for occurrences beyond our control including acts of terrorism, war, defects in vehicles, breakdown of equipment, strikes, theft, delay or cancellation of, or changes in, itinerary or schedules. Nor are we responsible for expenses incurred in preparing for the trip (such as non-refundable advance-purchase air tickets, visa fees, equipment or medical expenses) or for additional arrangements should you embark from home before the group departure date. All coupons, receipts and tickets are issued subject to the terms and conditions of the suppliers. We do, however, operate every journey with licensed vehicles and crews and accept responsibility for their proper delivery as described in your booking contract.
You have one contact person from your first email to your farewell — reach them any time during the journey. If something is not right, tell us while it happens and we will fix it on the spot wherever we can. For modifications, cancellations and refunds, or anything else, write to info@orilivantchinajourneys.com; we respond to every message within one working week.
Any dispute arising from the services provided by Orilivant China International Journeys Co., Ltd. shall be settled through friendly consultation between the parties. The claiming party shall notify the other within 30 days after the end of the services, in a dated notice in English describing the nature of the dispute. If no settlement is reached through consultation within 60 days of that notice, the claiming party may refer the matter to the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) Shanghai for final arbitration in Shanghai, PRC, under the CIETAC arbitration rules.
You confirm that you have carefully read and fully understand these booking conditions — especially those regarding cancellation and refund policies, limitation of liability and the responsibility borne by participants — and that you accept them of your own free will when paying the deposit.
